MaraView – Marathon’s Enterprise Content Management Solution
Sponsored by Gimmal
Like many companies, Marathon is managing a “mountain” of information. Without attention, that mountain is expected to double in size every 18 months. This motivated the company to start an Enterprise Content Management program. The business goals were: i) to improve the productivity of employees in finding and sharing information, ii) to improve the quality of the information on which decisions are taken, and iii) to improve management of the lifecycle of information, from creation to end of life.
Marathon introduced MaraView, a new information management framework for creating, finding, and sharing relevant, up-to-date and trusted information. It is how Marathon attacks the mountain. In this session, learn about how Marathon used SharePoint 2007 as the primary underlying technology and user interface for MaraView. The deployment and adoption of MaraView has resulted in cost reduction and increased productivity.
Adapting Leading Edge Graphics and Gaming Technology to Geoscience Interpretation at Chesapeake Energy
Sponsored by Landmark Software & Services
Oil and gas customers always demand strong 3D capabilities. Imaging only 2D sections has its uses, but the subsurface is 3D, and such a view greatly enhances interpretation. Customer expectations are also increasing at a Moore's Law pace. They want more scalability, more interpretative capability, and higher quality graphics. These demands tax legacy applications. The power customers want is simply not possible with legacy technologies: 32-bit applications, single-core machines, and fixed function 3D graphics pipelines. Meeting these challenges required Landmark to embrace the latest graphics, operating system (Windows 7) and gaming (Xbox) technologies offered by Microsoft. This customer presentation will highlight the business and technical benefits extended to geoscientists as a result of applying horizontal Microsoft technologies specifically for Exploration and Production of hydrocarbons.
Quality Key Performance Indicators at Schlumberger – “If you can Measure it you can Manage it”
Sponsored by Hitachi Consulting
To efficiently extract hydrocarbons residing in more challenging and risk-prone environments, the oil and gas industry must strive for far higher standards of operations. Today, a key focus of operators is the ability to execute projects on time and on budget. Essential to achieving this, is having a zero tolerance attitude towards Quality incidents. Accurately tracking and managing Quality within an organization requires clearly defined Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). To meet our goal of delivering flawless execution to our customers, Schlumberger has addressed this need by establishing a uniform set of Quality KPIs and applying these throughout the organization. A web-based portal has been developed to pull data from Schlumberger databases worldwide, enabling managers to identify and address Quality incidents. The continuous tracking of Non-Productive Rate and Non-Conformance Rate enables Schlumberger to measure and manage Quality in all geographic locations. Performing fair and systematic investigations, to determine root cause(s) after non-conformances, reduces Quality incidents and prevents similar reoccurrences. Schlumberger’s strong commitment to service delivery and product reliability is driven by the Excellence in Execution multi-year program.

Information Management at Southwestern Energy – Putting the Platform to Work
Sponsored by Stonebridge
As a growing independent producer of natural gas, Southwestern Energy (SWN) maintains many different domains of information, each with its own challenges. To meet these diverse needs, Southwestern Energy leverages many aspects of the SharePoint platform. SWN devised the Partner Information Portal, a secure online application for delivering well-level information to operating partners. The application saves hundreds of man-hours per month through more efficient and more secure communications. What’s more, it represents a decidedly “green” approach to a traditionally paper-based business process. SWN also utilized SharePoint to redefine its external web presence with the launch of the new www.swn.com . This site delivers multimedia, search and content management capabilities. SWN’s website is the centerpiece of a corporate branding initiative for a progressive energy company driven to succeed through innovation and creativity. Additionally, each day SWN is identifying new and different ways to streamline its internal communication and collaboration through SharePoint. This includes its corporate intranet, electronic content management, business intelligence, and other information management activities. This discussion will address how these new capabilities have changed “daily life” at SWN for its IT and business communities, as well as the potential SharePoint holds for future improvements.
